Contexts

The concept of a context is special in GTD. A context is a location where you can carry out some next action of this category, e.g. in a shopping mall you can do your "errands". Without context, your next actions are buried somewhere in your task lists. It's important to have your next actions at a glance when you enter physically the context. When you enter your office you can do your next actions categorized with "at office".

Inspired by GTD, OrgYou comes with the following contexts:

You can add your own contexts, e.g. "online" for all things you want to do if you are connected to the internet, or "shopping" for the things you need to buy immediately while errands are to be bought in the next future.

Some of the delivered contexts have a special meaning and are explained further:

Waiting For

This context is for tracking all things you are waiting for.
So these are not actions you can do immediately, but you enter something you are waiting for as a next action with the context "waiting for".

Persons

If you want to remember the matter to discuss with Sally, you create a "next action" with a reference to Sally. Sally may be your daughter, or may be a staff member whom you delegated a task. Or may be Sally is your boss and you want to write down your thoughts for the next meeting, including questions, escalations and possibilities.

Use this context for all personal communication forms: phonecalls, SMS, verbally.

If you enter a reference to a person, the context is switched to "persons" and the next action will show up in the context view of this person.

No context / ideas

Such an item either never got assigned an context, perhaps because only the subject text was inserted, or this context was choosen deliberately because it's simply an idea. If you have an idea about a existing task that you want to keep, add a Next Action with type "no context / idea" as child of the task. This is not a doable action, but sort of supporting material. You should reconsider your ideas from time to time to derive tasks or projects or something else from them. In GTD terms "no context / ideas"  is a collection point like other inboxes.

If you have an idea about some other topic, enter it directly in the context view of "no context / ideas".

Someday / Maybe

This is a place to keep ideas which are not actually on your radar: learning an instrument, climbing the Kilimanjaro, start teaching seminars, etc.

Perhaps, someday, you will commit to this idea and make a project of it, adding subtasks and next actions to accomplish it.
